Who We Are

I’m Kurt Nelson. I roll around in a wheelchair due to a spinal cord injury resulting from a extremely rough traffic accident back in 2003.

The name Wheelchair Weaponry was born while I was in gunsmithing school when I flippantly wrote it on the slide of a 1911 I was rebuilding for accuracy and reliability.

I graduated from Yavapai College’s 2-year gunsmithing program followed by their advanced program. Later, I taught gunsmithing there for awhile. I stopped teaching because I’d rather serve my customers than academia.

Before my injury, I was a tool and die maker for 10 years. I started out making stamping dies for military applications and electronics. Later, I built and repaired plastic injection molds for medical and electronics.

Throughout all those years, I raised my kids, began shooting in competitions, and a bunch of other stuff I won’t bore you with.

My wife Stephanie and I started Wheelchair Weaponry in 2019. When we first launched, I specialized in repairs. I’ve always taken great pride in making firearms function well. Somewhere along the way, I began doing more custom work with an emphasis on giving my customers the nicer upgrades to their guns you can’t get from the factory.

I enjoy learning new things, and experimenting with new ideas, so if you can dream it up, and it’s safe, I’d like to make it happen for you!
